We offer a variety of services to help you get better prepared for
If you don't live in the San Jose (CA) area, or if you just prefer a
do-it-yourself approach, this website contains plenty of information
to help you decide what preparations are appropriate for you.
You'll need to invest a bit of time, but the information here
won't cost you a dime.
Read and browse here as much as you like, and feel free to
make hard-copies for your own personal use, but remember that everything
here is copyrighted so you are not allowed to distribute or repost any of
our material. Of course, we'd be delighted if you choose to post links
back to this site.
If you decide to purchase some supplies the process of finding them
can be daunting and time-consuming.
Our business is based on providing you with specialized information,
not on trying to sell you physical stuff,
but as a service to make it easier for you to prepare we do provide links
to recommended products on our Supplies page.
South Bay Safety Guy would be pleased to give a presentation on Family Earthquake Preparedness to your service club, school group or PTA, homeowners' association, Meetup group, or other organization.
These are introductory talks that cover a few basic topics.
They are typically 30 minutes long but can be extended to 60 minutes on request.
You provide the location and any publicity.
Admission to talks must be free. (Suggested donations to non-profits are fine.)
We ask that you expect at least 10 people to attend, but the more the merrier.
These talks are offered at no charge as a public service to the community, but the number of available time slots is limited.
Commercial companies (e.g. retail stores) are welcome to sponsor these talks, so long as admission is open and free.
Our workshops are longer and much more hands-on than the free talks, and they are personalized to your group and your family.
We include a broader range of topics and present more detailed information about specific products.
These are typically held in living rooms or backyards, to be convenient for all the neighbors attending.
A “walk-through” of each home is included, where we identify hazards, answer specific questions, and create a customized “todo” list for each family.
After the presentation, you and your friends or neighbors will have the opportunity to purchase selected disaster supplies.
We will bring samples of recommended products that you can examine and ask questions about. This includes samples of storage food that you can taste — try before you buy.
We also bring samples of things we don't recommend so you can see the differences.
A few products will be available for immediate purchase, but many items will need to be ordered for later delivery. Minimizing inventory helps us keep prices low.
You provide a coordinator, to whom South Bay Safety Guy will deliver all the products after we receive them from our distributors (typically 2-4 weeks). Your coordinator is then responsible for delivering the items to the individual neighbors who ordered them.
There is a charge of $50 per home for the walk-throughs. There is no charge for the coordinator's walk-through or for families which choose not to have a walk-through, but there is a $200 minimum for the workshop.
All homes for walk-throughs must be close together.
If you would like South Bay Safety Guy's undivided attention, you may schedule a “Family Workshop”.
These are just like a Neighborhood Workshop, but for a single family. The $200 minimum applies.
